Namibia Passport Requirements: What Every Traveller Needs to Know in 2026

Namibia requires all visitors to hold a valid passport that meets specific validity and page requirements. Since April 1, 2025, most nationalities — including US, UK, and EU citizens — also need a visa. Understanding the passport rules before you travel helps avoid denied boarding or refused entry at the border.

Passport Validity Rules

Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned date of arrival in Namibia. This is strictly enforced — airlines may deny boarding if your passport expires within six months, and immigration officials will refuse entry at the border.

For example, if you plan to arrive in Namibia on September 1, 2026, your passport must not expire before March 1, 2027. Check your passport expiry date well in advance, as some countries require several weeks for renewal.

Blank Passport Pages

Namibia requires at least three completely blank pages in your passport. These pages are needed for entry stamps, visa endorsements, and exit stamps. Pages marked “amendment” or “endorsement” do not count as blank.

If your passport does not have enough blank pages, you should renew it before travelling. Some countries offer passports with extra pages, but Namibia specifically requires standard blank visa pages.

Visa on Arrival and eVisa

Since April 1, 2025, citizens of 33 countries — including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand — need a visa to enter Namibia. You have two options:

1. eVisa (recommended): Apply online before travel through the Namibia eVisa application portal at eservices.mhaiss.gov.na. Print your approval notice and carry it with you.
2. Visa on Arrival: Available at 15 entry points including Hosea Kutako International Airport (Windhoek), Walvis Bay International Airport, and major border posts.

The visa fee is NAD 1,600 for most nationalities and NAD 1,200 for African Union member state citizens. Children aged 6–11 pay 50% of the adult fee; children under 6 enter free. Cruise passengers arriving at Walvis Bay or Lüderitz pay NAD 130.

How Long Can You Stay?

A standard visa allows stays of up to 30 days, though immigration officers may grant up to 90 days at their discretion. The visa itself is valid for up to 90 days in a calendar year and is multiple-entry by default.

If you need more time, you can apply for an extension at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security in Windhoek. Extensions grant up to three additional months. Do not overstay — overstaying can result in detention, fines, or a ban on future entry.

Travelling with Children

Namibia has strict rules for children under 18. Parents or guardians must carry:

• The child’s valid passport
• A full (unabridged) birth certificate showing both parents’ details — original or certified copy
• If one parent is travelling alone with the child: a notarised consent letter from the other parent, or a court order granting full custody, or the other parent’s death certificate
• If a legal guardian is travelling: documentation proving guardianship

Abridged or short birth certificates are not accepted. UK parents can order a full unabridged birth certificate online. If travelling through South Africa, additional documentation may be required — check South Africa’s entry rules as well.

Yellow Fever Certificate

If you are arriving from a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission, you must present a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. This applies even if you are only transiting through a risk country. Without the certificate, you may be denied entry or required to vaccinate on arrival.

Passport Requirements for Namibian Citizens

Namibian passport holders can travel visa-free to several countries including Hong Kong, Brazil (tourism only), Trinidad and Tobago, and certain countries with diplomatic passport exemptions. The Namibian passport has a mobility score of 79 on the Passport Index, allowing visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to a moderate number of destinations.

Namibians applying for a new passport should contact the Ministry of Home Affairs or their nearest Namibian embassy. Processing times vary, so apply well ahead of any planned travel.
